C.29. Caption for a statue of Polymnia

Description: One of a group of six marble bases for statues of the muses, inscribed with C.24, C.25, C.26, C.27, C.28, C.29; a seventh is uninscribed. Rectangular base, moulded, with chamfered corners, broken at the left front edge (w: 0.48 x h: 0.095 x d: 0.26) carrying the figure of a muse complete except for the head.
Text: Inscribed on the base.
Letters: Second to third centuries. Atypical at Cyrene and possibly cut elsewhere; 0.025, traces of rubrication.

Findspot: Cyrene: Theatre 2; found between 1962 and 1966.
