Commentary

The text contains parts of decrees praising and rewarding an A. Pompeius M[...], probably a Cyrenaean, for his benefactions to the city.

Line 3: Perhaps the phrase τοῖς (?καλοῖς καὶ) ἀγαθοῖς τῶν ἄνδρων stood here, cf at Teos, EA 1985, 13-17, whence PHI 236423; the expression is frequently used to indicate that the community should be seen to honour good men.

For the restoration of lines 4,5 cf. C.416, lines 19-22.

Line 8 suggests the governor's approval of honorary decrees: so e.g. IGRR II 738, section III, line 99: τετειμῆσθαι αὐτὸν συνκατέθετο καὶ ὁ κράτιστος ἡγεμὼν Τρέβιος Μάξιμος δι'ἧς γέγραφφεν ἐπιστολῆς (available at PHI 284795)

Lines 9-10 appear to have contained instructions to the appropriate officials to inscribe the decree and display it.

Line 13: Presumably Pompeios had provided free olive oil in the gymnasium.

Line 16: A reference probably to officials to be appointed in the future.
