T.697. Funerary inscription

Description: Presumably a rock-cut tomb, inscribed on the façade, probably with T.696, T.697, T.698, T.699 and T.700.
Text: Apparently inscribed to the right of T.696, to the left of T.698. The cutter had to avoid faults in the stone.
Letters: No measurements. Lunate omega; lunate sigma in l.7; L, with a dot, for ἔτους/ἐτῶν.

Date: Probably first century CE

Findspot: Taucheira: one of the East Quarries; recorded by Pacho in 1825; not seen subsequently.
Original location: Findspot.

Year 14, Choiak 12, Saloi (scil. daughter) of Kallisthenes. Year 12, [month ?] 10, P(oplios) Antonios (i.e. P(ublius) Antonius) Ptolemaios, aged 48.

Commentary

Line 2: The name may be Jewish.

Line 4: Another possible reading might be (ἐτῶν) ιβ΄, aged 12, followed by [Φ]αωφὶ ι΄,  Ἀντώνιος Πτολεμαίο[υ].
