Commentary

a.1: Year 28, presumably an Actian date (4-3 BCE)

a.2: One of the few clues to the Constitution of Ptolemais.

b.i.13: On Ithalamon son of Apellas see D. Feissel, art.cit.

b.ii.5: The editors read Ἀλδαμονος, but discussed the possible reading of Αλλαμμονος, followed by Masson, in his article on Libyan names in Cyrenaica of the same year (Masson, 1976). But for Ἀλδάμων see now also P.299.

c: Ephebic documents of this type at Cyrene usually conclude with a dedication to Hermes and Herakles as gods of the Gymnasium; we have no parallel for what remains here.
