Commentary
l.4. No definite solution has been found. Oliverio proposed e(x) h(onesta) m(issione). Prof. E. Birley has suggested a cutter's error for Hem(esenorum) or for e(quitatae) h(oc) m(onumentum) h(eredem) n(on) s(equetur) but the latter seems much too sophisticated for this monument and is otherwise unattested in the province. We suggest, very tentatively, e(quitum) H(e)m(esenorum).
