IRCyr   Inscriptions of Roman Cyrenaica

M.123. Boundary marker

Description: Lower part of a brown limestone stele damaged above and along the edges (w: 0.65 x h: 1.50 x d: 0.43).
Text: Inscribed on one face. Presumably the Latin text appeared above the Greek on this face and the Greek was continued on the right hand face in the lost upper part of the stele. Vacant spaces mark holes avoided by the cutter; a lightly incised representation of a palm tree concludes the text.
Letters:

Date: 54-68 CE

Findspot: Gebel Akhdar: West of Cyrene: Bu Traba; found in 1967, half-buried on the east bank of Wadi a little west of the village centre, and just north of the Tolmeita/Tocra road. In line with M.124, M.125.
Original location: Findspot
Last recorded location: Tolmeita Museum

Commentary

The palm tree is certainly ancient and presumably an indication of one element in the production of the estate.
