C.141. Fragmentary list of priests of Apollo

Description: Marble stele consisting of two blocks standing one above the other; only the upper survives - w: 0.48 x h: 1.04 x d: 0.27, broken above and below at the right side. This may be the lower part of C.140.
Text: Inscribed on one face; each entry in a different hand.
Letters: Average 0.03; superscript bar above the abbreviated praenomina in lines 3 and 9. Ivy leaves at the end of line 2 and, according to CIG, of lines 5, 8, 11; circular stops; dots after each abbreviation.

Date: 68-74 CE

Findspot: Cyrene: Agora area; first recorded in 1819, 'prope castellum in via ad magnum fontem ducente', with C.140. Found by Oliverio in the Agora area, 'nell demolizione di una casetta costruita dai militari'.

Commentary

This is clearly from a running record of eponymus priests of Apollo, but the record was not kept systematically, and the entries are not in all cases consecutive.

Line 9: year 99 of the Actian era = CE 68/69.

Line 12: year 104 of the Actian era = CE 73/74.
