Commentary
There are at least three ancient quarries in the neighbourhood, indicating the presence of a sizeable collection of solidly constructed buildings in antiquity, which would be justified by the marked fertility of the district; but modern construction has destroyed most traces of it. There is, however, an ancient well, and some large ancient buildings blocks can be seen re-used in modern houses. Such names as can be read show a mixture of transliterated Latin and Greek.
