M.166. Funerary inscription

Description: Small stele of limestone, white or grey weathered orange-brown, tapered towords the top, with traces of acroteria and a central projection (possibly a head) above (w: 0.31-0.24 x h: 0.45 x d: 0.10).
Text: Inscribed on one face between guide-lines.
Letters: Probably first century CE; roughly cut; 0.025; lunate epsilon, lunate sigma, cursive omega.

Date: Probably first century CE

Findspot: Gebel Akhdar: West of Cyrene: Aptouchou Hieron/Haniya; found between 1972 and 1974.
Original location: Unknown
Last recorded location: Cyrene Museum.

Commentary

Dobias-Lalou (loc.cit.) suggests that Τύχανος may be a hypochoristic formation from Τύχανδρος.
