[Emperor Caesar] son of a deity, [Augustus, high priest (i.e. pontifex maximus) holding tribunician] power for [the ?th time, acclaimed Imperator for ] the fourteenth time [ . . The Cyren]aeans (scil. honoured him).
Commentary
Augustus was Imperator XIV from 8 BCE until 2 CE. It is possible in view of the appearance in line 3 of the unusual form τεσσερασκαιδέκατον, which otherwise occurs at Cyrene only in the first Cyrene Decree, C.101, line 2, that this inscription is contemporary with the decrees and even perhaps part of the expression of Cyrene's gratitude for them. If so, the end of line 2 should probably read ἑπτακαιδέκατον, holding tribunician power for the 17th time (7/6 BCE), and the space at the end of line 3 and the beginning of line 4 was perhaps filled with a formula such as εὐεργεσίας ἕνεκα.
