Commentary

The text apparently opened with dating formulae, and is presumably a decree, perhaps of the provincial assembly; it appears to honour someone for his virtue (a.10). One of his eservices appears to have been to serve an an embassy (b.5, 9) presumably to the imperial court.

a.1: apparently a name, not identifiable.

a.2: presumably still part of the dating formula; perhaps the month Ἐπιφ or ἐπὶ Φ[...]

a.3, b.7: The document appears to be a decree of the provincial κοινόν, and ιt may be that the name of the chairman, probably called the Libyarch (as in C.70, stood in the preceding line after ἐπί.

b. Lines 5 and 9: it is tempting but wholly conjectural to connect the embassy mentioned here with the embassy undertaken for the province by Synesius, cf. Περὶ Βασιλείας 2.
