P.52. Fragmentary ?decree

Description: Two fragments of marble panel (a: w: 0.13 x h: 0.14 x d: 0.04; b: w: 0.24 x h: 0.27 x d: 0.04).
Text: Inscribed on one face, from the right side either of the same marble panel or of a pair of panels (The connection is shown by the distinctive moulding and the letter forms).
Letters: Probably second century, circa 0.02; there are traces of guidelines; an elaborate stop ( stylised leaf?) concludes the last surviving line on each fragment.

Commentary

a.2: Perhaps from e.g. [Και]κιλία , or [Και]κιλιανός

b.6: Perhaps from a formula on the lines of ἀρετῆς καὶ εὐεργεσίας ἕνεκα καὶ φιλοδοξίας; it seems probable that b. contains the end of an honorary decree including the instruction to inscribe the text on a marble stele (line 2).
