P.271. Funerary inscription

Description: Rock-cut tomb, inscribed on the façade, which is badly damaged, with P.271, P.272, P.273, P.274, P.275.
Text: Inscribed within the triangle of a gabled panel, outlined in relief above the door (w: 0.54 x h: 0.42); the third line is cut on the lower moulding of the gable, but the main panel was never inscribed.
Letters: Lines 2, 4, 0.04; line 3, 0.025; cursive omega.

Date: First to third centuries CE

Findspot: Ptolemais: Quarry I.c, north wall; first recorded in 1915.

Commentary

Lines 1-2: The name suggests a Jew. The Doric forms in the patronymic are to be noted.
