P.261. Funerary inscription

Description: Rock-cut tomb.
Text: Inscribed on the façade within a tabella ansata in relief (w: 0.42 x h: 0.18) the surface badly worn and in part lost. The last line was read only by Pacho.
Letters: 0.015 - 0.03; cursive epsilon, lunate sigma, cursive omega.

Date: Probably first century BCE to mid first century CE

Findspot: Ptolemais: Quarry I.c, on a pillar of rock left standing in the central area; first recorded in 1825.

Commentary

The absence of a cognomen suggests a date not much later than the middle first century CE
