Description: Part of the base of a spirally fluted column of bluish marble.
Text: Inscribed on the fillet which is damaged at either side of the surviving text.
Letters: Second to third century: 0.025 - 0.03; square sigma.

Date: Second to third century CE

Findspot: Ptolemais: presumably re-used in House of Paulus, in Room 25, the oecus of the attached dwelling; found in 1957.

Commentary

Kraeling described the text as “complete in one line”; The text was never more than one line, but it cannot be assumed that it is complete at the end given the condition of the stone. Silvanus might have been a donor, or he might simply have established his 'place' by this column; for 'place' inscriptions see ALA2004, XI.2.
