IRCyr   Inscriptions of Roman Cyrenaica

M.204. Visitors' records

Description: A rock-cut chamber (A), whose walls are inscribed with IGCyr 51800, M.204 and M.205
Text: On the north wall; cut or scratched in a layer of plaster. A number of graffiti have been cut on top of each other which makes a reading often hazardous, even apart from the difficulties arising from the poor condition of the plaster.
Letters: Probably all Roman, but not more precisely datable. Sizes varying, intermittent lunate epsilon, lunate sigma, cursive omega.

Date: First century BCE - third century CE

Findspot: Gebel Akhdar: West of Cyrene: Wadi Bu Nabeh, Bu Darag.
Original location: Unknown
Last recorded location: Findspot.

i-xv: Ferri's transcriptions, recorded here alongside ours, make more sense of some letters and the fact that we (Goodchild and Reynolds) were unable to confirm it at many points is in part to be attributed to the deterioration of the plaster since he saw it. Items reported only by him are underlined; some further items rescorded by us may actually be the same as those reported as seen only by him.
