Description: Lower part of a circular base of limestone, moulded below (h: 0.065 x diam.: 0.09). Damaged sculpture above, interpreted by Oliverio as showing a head of silphium.
Text: Inscribed on an encircling band (h: 0.02).
Letters: Second-third centuries CE: 0.08.

Date: Second to third century CE

Findspot: Cyrene: East Necropolis, on the hill of Eluet Gassam; found before 1933.
Original location: Probably Sanctuary of Demeter and Kore.
Last recorded location: Findspot (1933).

Commentary

All details are taken from Oliverio; SEG appear to have misread or misprinted the proposed date (as third century BCE).

It is not clear what context existed for this dedication on the East Hill, and it may well be that it was moved there in modern times from the sanctuary in the Wadi Bel Gadir.
