Letters: Probably second century, 0.08; lunate epsilon and sigma. Oliverio recorded rubrication.

Findspot: Cyrene: Fountain Terrace: Found probably in 1931, collected together, the inscriptions were turned face inwards, near the rock face, beside the Byzantine lime kilns.

Commentary

All the altars in this set that can be legible contain unusual elements. There is a discussion by Pugliese-Carratelli (1963).

a: Perhaps Ἀφροδείτα as in C.323; we have found no parallel epithet for any goddess. Pugliese-Carratelli suggested perhaps [Π]α[ν]ί, noting that [Ζ]α[ν]ί is excluded because the form Ζηνί is constant at Cyrene.
