τὸν ναὸν Εἴσιδος ἐπε-

Per la fortuna e vittoria e durata dell'Imperatore Cesare M(arco) Aurelio Antonino Augusto e di tutta la sua casa, Ti(berio) Claudio Batto, essendo sacerdote (di Apollo), il tempio di Iside restaurò e coprì da (con) le entrate di Apollo, essendo proconsole Numisio Marcelliano, il fortissimo proconsole.

English translation

For the (scil. good) fortune and victory and permanence of the Emperor Caesar M(arcus) Aurelius Antoninus Augustus and his whole household: Ti(berios) Klaudios (i.e. Ti(berius) Claudius) Battos, serving as priest, restored and roofed the temple of Isis from the income of Apollo, in the time of Numisius Marcellianus, the most excellent proconsul.

Commentary

Line 3: Either M. Aurelius or Caracalla, and probably the former, see the closely similar C.305.

line 8 There is evidence of work in the Temple under Hadrian, C.298, but no disaster likely to necessitate extensive rebuilding is known to have occurred between his reign and the date of this inscription. Either the temple was left incomplete in the interval or considerable repairs became necessary for some unrecorded reason, perhaps simply because of the poor quality of the local building stone.
