C.215. Fragmentary names, with dates

Description: Block, probably of marble; re-used as a cornice with the surface of the left side of one face cut away.
Text: Inscribed on the face. Before being re-used the surface had been cut with graffiti, some of which were destroyed by the conversion. i: to the upper right; ii: across the centre; iii: at the left edge; iv: below iii.
Letters: Very crude, of varying sizes (no measurements). i, ii and iii, large and confident; iv small.

Date: 1/2 BCE - 38/39 CE

Findspot: Cyrene: near the Antonine Arch, 'in the Piazza Ghegab'; found before 1941.
Original location: Unknown.
Last recorded location: Not seen, read from the photograph.

Commentary

i: 69 of the Actian Era = CE 38-39.

ii: 30 of the Actian era = 2-1 BCE

It may be that iii and iv should be taken together, as a name ending -sila followed by a patronymic and an age.
