Description: Limestone block (w: 0.91 x h: 0.32 x d: 0.58).
Text: Inscribed on the exposed face.
Letters: Fourth-fith century; 0.022, cursive omega, one alpha with a straight crossbar, and one with a slanting crossbar.

Date: IV-V cent.

Findspot: Cyrene: Valley Street, in a wall behind the Central Church, on the Southern side; found in 1958.
Original location: Unknown.

Commentary

This is likely to be from a building inscription, probably (from the scale) recording emperors. Perhaps [τ]ῶν καλ[λινίκων: so e.g. τῶν καλιν[ίκων ἡμῶν δεσ]ποτῶν of Justinian and Theodora PHI 319550, of Justinian alone IGLS IV. 1809 (PHI 244063). The epithet is also used of martyrs: so e.g.. IGLS V, 2530 (PHI 244809).
