Description: Column drum of "Malta stone" (presumably the soft local limestone of Cyrene).
Text: Inscribed on the drum.
Letters: First-second century: 0.04, well cut.

Date: First to second centuries CE

Findspot: Cyrene: Acropolis, 'Apse building', built into the central room, about 4m below the surface; excavated by the Norton Expedition in 1910, and damaged after excavation.
Original location: Unknown.

Commentary

The beginning of the inscription was still hidden when the photograph was taken. The fine cutting and the use of Latin suggests that this may be the name of a proconsul, although an immigrant resident is not impossible.
